Murderers VS Sheriffs Duels Beginner Guide: Win Your First Matches

How a Duel Works

Every MVSD match is a race to five round wins. You queue into 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4, and each round both sides fight with the same two tools: a knife (melee plus a throwable) and a gun. Kill everyone on the other side — or survive the timer — and the round is yours.

That symmetry is the whole point: there are no stat advantages anywhere in the game. Every skin from a 65% common pull to the 0.25% Techno Sniper deals identical damage. Your aim, movement and throw timing decide duels, nothing else.

Your First Gem Purchases (in Order)

Gems come from playing rounds and redeeming codes. Spend them in this order:

  1. Sprint (3,750 gems) — a +50% speed burst for 2 seconds. It wins chases in both directions and needs zero setup. Safest value in the shop.
  2. Dash (2,500 gems) — a dodge tool on a 6-second cooldown. Combat is disabled mid-dash, so use it to escape or bait throws, never to engage.
  3. Soul Reap (5,000 gems) — the endgame pick. In team modes, consuming a soul for invulnerability plus +60% speed flips entire rounds. Buy it once the cheaper tools stop feeling limiting.

The full breakdown with all six abilities is on the ability tier list.

Five Mistakes That Lose Beginner Duels

  1. Throwing the knife on cooldown-brain — every missed throw is a free window for the enemy gun.
  2. Fighting in open mid — MVSD maps reward wall-hugging and corner timing, not open-field strafing.
  3. Buying Propeller first because it’s cheapest — a jump boost wins almost nothing; see the tier list before spending.
  4. Ignoring the codes menu — free cases and a free knife code are sitting there on day one.
  5. Trading blind — the moment you pull anything Rare or better, someone will lowball you. Check the value list before accepting any trade.
